Hey Ahsoka Fans!
I have been waiting anxiously for this series! I have loved Ahsoka when she was first introduced in Clone Wars the animated series. Then my love for her grew more when she popped back up in Rebels, another animated series. I highly suggest watching both of those series if you have not already. But I know there are some that are not a fan of animated shows, so it is ok if you don’t watch them. You will be a bit confused on who characters are if you do not watch Rebels.
I thought this first season was wonderful! Were there plot points that could have been explained better, of course. But overall it was a good first season. It was also great being back in the Rebels world. I LOVED the Rebels series, so when this series was announced I was all in. It’s also great that this show is in The Mandalorian storyline. So maybe more crossovers??
Every actor/actress in my opinion was casted perfectly. Everyone did SUCH a great job and killed it in every scene they were in. Ray Stevenson was my favorite. We are all saddened that he has passed away and that he will not receive the love he deserves for this role in person at conventions. Yes, he did get some before the show came out, but I know the people would swarm him even more now seeing him in the show.
The Ahsoka show itself looks great! Very well done. The music is also on point. For the music they did get the composer Kevin Kiner. Kevin did the music for the whole Clone Wars series. Since Kevin has already worked closely with Dave Filoni, he already knows what is expected. I love that Filoni is taking the reins on this show and wrote the entire script.
In the end, I say Ahsoka was a hit. Filoni did such a great job introducing his beloved characters to old fans and new. This first season was full of adventure and surprises. Yes, things could have been written out a but smoother, but overall I applaud Filoni. I do hope the next season will have more than 8 episodes. I feel as if Filoni could not make a total clear picture with the 8 episodes he presented us.
At the end of the day it was another great Star Wars show and what is not to love about that? More Star Wars will always be a win.
Here is a quick rundown of the characters if you do not know who they are:
Ahsoka: Anakin’s Padawan that was introduced in Clone Wars the animated series. Became part of the Ghost crew.
Sabine: A Mandalorian who trained with a Jedi named Kanan Jarrus to control the Dark Saber that we have seen in The Mandalorian series.
Ezra: A Jedi who lived on the planet Lothal before becoming part of the Ghost crew and training with Kanan.
Thrawn: The main villain in the last season of Rebels. His character is also based off of the popular Thrawn novels.
Hera: Leader of the Ghost crew. She was the love interest of Kanan and they had a child together named Jace.
Ghost Crew: Hera, Kanan, Sabine, Zeb, Ezra, and Chopper

Since there was a great deal that happened I will break it down by characters. This will also help me keep track of my thoughts 😅
Ahsoka
I am totally a fan of how Rosario Dawson portrayed Ahsoka. Yes, I will admit at first it is a it jarring because this Ahsoka is different than the one in the Clone Wars animated show, but I always believed in Filoni and his writing. And at the end of the season we do see Rosario turn this Ahsoka into the Ahsoka we see in the animated show. I LOVED that she became Ahsoka the White. I know lots of people have made that connection because it pretty much punches you in the face if you have seen Lord of the Rings. The only thing that I am still confused on is what exactly Ahsoka learned from Anakin in the World Between Worlds. I went back to watch that episode twice just to see if I missed something. If I did please let me know in the comments!
Anakin
Just. . . Wow. Hayden Christensen is really living his best life right now. I am loving that he is getting the respect he deserves after all these years. Filoni did a SPECTACULAR job with the Anakin character. When he is with Ahsoka in the World Between Worlds it was EPIC. Especially that one scene that everyone is talking about. Where Anakin flashes to Vader in the fog. Filoni know exactly what he was doing when he created that scene.
Sabine
Natasha Liu Bordizzo I think played Sabine the best she could. I just don’t feel that love of the character coming through. Don’t get me wrong, I understand a lot has happened since the ending of Rebels, so everyone’s attitude is a bit different because of the Empire, but still. It felt to me as if the essence of Sabine was missing. FOR SURE I do feel there was a lack of storytelling with her because we did not fully get the story about her Force abilities and every time she talked to Ezra she would just tell him things were complicated. This to me was a missed opportunity and a little bit of lazy storytelling. I feel Filoni Yadda Yadda’d quit a bit. So during the season finale I truly disliked that we saw Sabine using the Force to open a door. I felt as a fan I was robbed of seeing her Force journey. ALSO! She aided in Thrawn’s return and we are supposed to forget that or there are no consequences?
Huyang
It was freaking awesome seeing Huyang again. He was great in the animated series. One of my favorite lines from Huyang is when he is telling Ahsoka a story and he starts it off with “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”. He was such a great addition to the show bringing in those moments of comedy.
Shin and Baylan
These two started off SO STRONG, but I feel both of their stories dwindled towards the end. Honestly to the point where I was left wanting more and I was confused. Baylan talked highly of the planet they were on and it’s mysterious powers, but I was left wondering why this planet is a mystery. And then Shin was just left to do her own thing. I was really hoping more of Baylan and Shin’s story would be revealed or that we would see Shin have a little of the light side in her. There were a few times where I thought Shin was going to join the good guys.
Thrawn
In the Rebels show Thrawn was LEGIT and I truly felt he was an evil character. Sadly I did not get that same feel in the show. Filoni did not really let his evil strategic flag fly. I am hoping that Filoni is saving it for the next season. I know Thrawn can be completely ruthless and we did not get a chance to see that side of him. They really played up his character in Mandalorian season 3, but in this show he fell short of that hype. The one thing Thrawn did do that was perfectly bad was when he had the space mines put out to try to defeat Ahsoka. I do absolutely love that Lars Mikkelsen came back to reprise this roll. Oh! I do love that Thrawn knew not to underestimate Ahsoka since Anakin was the one who trained her. I also would have liked a little more story on Thrawn and the Night Sisters. I just wanted to know how they found each other.
Ezra
Eman Esfandi did SUCH A GREAT job with Ezra. He truly embodied the character fully. I 100% bought that he was Ezra. He FOR SURE did his homework. The one thing in the writing that bugged me, which is hard to say because Filoni wrote the season, was Ezra was completely fine with Sabine not answering any of his questions. He hasn’t seen her for about 10 years. It just didn’t seem as if he were interested in catching up with his friend. One storytelling mishap about Ezra, and Thrawn, is that what the heck were they both doing for all these years?
Hera
For the little we see of Hera I was on board for. The move from animation to live action was seamless to me just like Ezra’s character.
Night Sisters
There story for sure could have been a little more thought out. Morgan Elsbeth story could have been flushed out more by just giving us a few more lines of dialogue. I still don’t understand what is making Morgan so special and how did the other night sisters get in contact with her. That would have been nice to see.
