Oh. My. Freaking. Goodness. Ok. So. I have read enough of the comic to be caught up where the show ends. Even though the comic is pretty freaking graphic. It DID NOT prepare me for the TV show. What is nice though, is that even though there are differences between the comic and the TV show, it is still a pretty faithful adaptation. If you have not read the comics I still say check out the show. Also, you will see similarities between this comic/show and characters from Marvel, DC, and even The Boys. Robert Kirkman’s Invincible is an incredible twist on the the superhero formula that we have know and love.
Not only is the comic beautifully done, but this episode is off the charts awesome as well. It is wonderful seeing a comic, that quickly rose to my top favorites, of this caliber come to life. The animation is flawless. The other thing that is flawless is the casting! Honestly, I think EVERYONE is casted perfectly. I love that they got Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, and Mark Hamill! β€ They brought each character to life in the best way possible.
I usually say give a show at least three episodes before you make a decision, but after this first episode you are either in or out. It shows you just how graphic it will be going forward, and it lays out the entire plotline.
So overall I say DEFINITELY watch it! It’s SO STINKIN GOOD. Just as a heads up, if you are squeamish when it comes to hardcore, brutal violence, beware of this show.

Like I said before, This episode was such a great adaptation from paper to screen. But, like all adaptations, there will be some things that get changed. Usually people make changes and it ruins the book or comic. I am happy to say that the changes they made for this show were perfect. I also like that they stuck to how Invincible is drawn. They did not try to change how people look. All they did was just flush it out so it looks clean for animation. Overall it was just great seeing this comic come to life.
I am also a fan of how they introduced the shows title.
π’ Mark and Nolan π’
You know, I am liking the bonding that they are doing with Mark and Nolan. When I was reading the comic I got that their relationship was close, but seeing it on screen with the music and acting, I feel their relationship together a whole lot more. So it hurts more when Omni Man kills the Guardians of the Globe. When Omni Man killed them, my first thought was, “Poor Mark”. But yeah, their relationship in this first episode actually made me like Nolan. That is saying something because I already knew I hated him from reading the comic π I also thought it was a nice touch that Nolan gave Mark his superhero name instead of Mark’s Principal like in the comic. This way, it grows Nolan and Mark’s bond even closer.
When I saw that all the Guardians getting together I could not believe they were going to start the series with Omni Man killing them all. I was like, “Are they really doing this?!”. And yup, they did. I think it was a great move on their part. I think this because then this way it sets up the whole tone for the show. With a show you need to find a way to draw people in from the beginning and this is totally the way to do it.
Is it just me or does he look like Bolin from Avatar Legend of Korra? π€£
π’ Amber π’
I LOVE that they made her character so much better! In the comic Amber is white and she is pretty much a side character until she gets with Mark. BUT. In this version Amber is African American and she can take care of herself. I like that she is the one who saved Mark from the bully.
π’ Guardians of the Globe Fight π’
You know, I was not at all prepared for the ending. Like. Not. At. All. This change is totally for the better from the comics. In the comics this scene happens too fast. I kind of wish they did show a little more in the comic, but gosh I could never have imagined this. Normally I do not mind brutal scenes, but this one made me close my eyes at some points.
π’ Debbie π’
The opening of this show had me laughing more than I should have. With Debbie barging in on Mark going to the bathroom had me laughing because this is what kids do to their mom’s ALL the time! They are always walking in on their mom going to the bathroom. So to see the roles reversed gave me a good laugh.
π’ Green Ghost π’
This is another character they changed for the better. I know it is only for a brief time, but I do like that they also made her African American like Amber.
π’ Martian Man π’
I do wonder who the little girl he befriended is π§ I wonder if this will come back to mean something, or it was just there to show Martian Man is a nice Martian.
