What a freaking awe-inspiring and heartwarming movie. I caught myself cheering out loud in certain parts. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this movie. I loved that they made this movie based on the real story of Omar Venegas and casa Hogar.
Jimmy Gonzales stole the show for me. He truly embodied the character he was playing. The ONLY thing I wish was that he was given more to do. As in more lines to truly shine. They should have given his character a little more depth because I totally believed in what he was doing from the beginning. He was firing on all cylinders, but I feel they did not fully flush out his character. Jimmy’s chemistry with Dennis was not that bad wither. They did a wonderful job playing off of each other.
You know, the kids in this movie were great as well. They acted perfectly and were not bothersome. All the kids actually seemed to truly get along and like each other. The banter they were having back and forth was believable. Nothing felt forced, and that honestly goes for everyone. Anyway, I do feel at times the kids were pushed to the side. I hate to say it, but normally I do not mind that, but these kids were doing a wonderful job in their roles.
The writing was pretty on point, but I do wish some things were changed. They should have given Jimmy a much bigger role, and they should not have left the kids in the background as much as they did. As much as I did like Dennis Quaid, I do wish the would have eighty sixed his character and let Jimmy Gonzales be the true star of the movie.
This was such a wonderful movie that was based on a true story. It is a great movie to enjoy with the whole family.
