When I heard Keanu Reeves was involved with a new comic book I knew I just HAD to get it.
Writing
This comic has easily jumped up my list to possible favorite comic. I know it has only been one issue, but that is just how good it is. It draws you in and keeps your attention the whole time. The story Kindt and Reeves have created is outstanding. It was different than any other comic I have read recently. I say this because yes, the basics of the comic is the same, but this issue it was all narrated. I liked that because it gave off more of a creepy vibe and it really drew me in more than I thought it would.
Artwork
I also have nothing but great things to say about the artwork. Man, oh man the artwork was off the chains. It reminded me of Invincible from Robert Kirkman, but more realistic. I was super impressed with how real everything looked. In certain scenes that had blood in them I would honestly yell things out loud. Well, not actually yelling, but saying things like, “Oh dang” or “Yowzah”. All I can say is that Garney is a master at his craft. You know, Crabtree is a master too because his coloring is perfect for this comic. The artwork is truly driving this comic and I am on board.
Overall
Honestly, I think if this comic series does well, we could easily see it come to the big screen or at least on a streaming service. Pick this up TODAY. You will not regret it.
🔴 Spoiler Summary Spew 🔴
We see our main character on a military mission and while on the plane is eyes are glowing blue. When he is done charging he jumps out of the helicopter and starts ripping into the enemy. It is bloody just like the Invincible comic. Maybe even worse than that 😅 While he is killing all these people we know that he is talking to someone. Sounds like a therapist he is talking to. So we can guess what we are seeing are flash backs. In these flashbacks he is blowing things up and killing people very gruesome like. When he is done we see his whole body and face are completely burnt. On the helicopter another soldier gives him a pill. They take him to a hidden governemtn facility where they rebuild the main guys face and skin. At the end we see it is a therapist / scientist he is talking to and she tells him that he had a breakthrough today in his brainwaves and she asks him why he thinks that is. He says that he remembered being born 80,000 years ago.
