🟢 Non Spoiler Review 🟢
The Little Things to me was an enjoyable movie. It kept my attention the whole time and it keeps you guessing all the way to the end. I am a HUGE fan of learning about serial killers. When I saw the trailer and saw that it was about a serial killer I was all in.
I will say though, that pacing was a bit of an issue. It felt super slow to me. With it being slow it did take me out of the movie a bit, but I was still fixated on the story. To be ok with the pace of the movie I started to think about real life detective work. Detective work is extremely slow. Now, I do not know this first hand, but it is from documentaries I have seen and speaking with officers. Their jobs are not always exciting and there is a lot of evidence gathering that happens, and it happens slowly. So knowing this it really made me ok with the pace. It made it feel more realistic.
Throughout the whole movie I was hoping for that oh my goodness moment. That honestly never came. I guess that’s why I had to come to terms with this movie trying to be realistic. The Little Things is VERY good at keeping its intense and haunting feel, but I do feel it falls a little short. Towards the end we get a lot of tension that is happening with all the characters, but it doesn’t leave me satisfied. Since I do think the creators were going for a more realistic tone the ending falls flat. They didn’t quite get that oomph at the ended that they really needed.
Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto are fantastic as they always are. They are all such amazing actors that they become they person they are portraying. Even though their acting was great, I did feel that there was really no chemistry between Malek and Washington. Then again the way their characters are written, it doesn’t seem like they were written to have a friend chemistry. It seemed to me there was supposed to be some resistance between the two.
Overall, I thought it was a good thriller movie and I love the cast in this. Since I do strongly feel they were going for more of a realistic vibe, the movie does not give you the ending you would want, but I feel if you were in the field it would make sense. At the end of the day if you are a fan of thrillers and crime/cop movies then you should watch it, but if you don’t you won’t be missing anything. But, if you already have HBO Max then you should might as well watch it.
