I must say. . . This show was interesting. It held my attention for the most part. After I finished watching The Irregulars I realized it is a book 😑 I am going to have to check out the book to see if it is better than the show adaption.
When I saw the first episode I was all in. I was excited that we were going to get a mash up between Sherlock Holmes (my favorite detective) and Supernatural. . . Sherlock Holmes mushed with supernatural stuff I was like SIGN ME UP!. . . Then after the first episode I realized I was wrooooooong. Well, it kind of is a mash up of the two, but not as much as I would have liked it to be.
The Irregulars overall had some intrigue, thrill, and adventure, but not enough to truly make this show pop. All the actors in this show I think did a great job with what they were given. The writers I do believe could have done a lot better. They should have done their research more on Sherlock himself and the Supernatural show. They should have also given the characters more development throughout the episodes because they were going through a lot and saw a lot. But sadly there was zero character development.
There were two main problems that I had with this show. 1) I was not a fan of how everyone was ok with all the supernatural stuff that was happening. They all agreed it was true and dived in head first without any type of research or training. 2) With how much I LOVE Sherlock Holmes, this version of him I could NOT get on board with. Sherlock was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of the Sherlock I know and love. Like COMPLETE OPPOSITE. So I really need to read the book to see if this is taken out of the book or if this was their own spin on Sherlock.
Quick side note. I know some people are not fans of modern music mixed with a time period that came before that type of music. Just a heads up that this show does do that. It doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers others.
Like I said earlier, this show is interesting and full of adventure. But, in the end it would have been SO MUCH BETTER if Sherlock were part of solving the mysteries. I was really thinking Sherlock and Watson were going to be similar to Sam and Dean from Supernatural. Now that would have been a GREAT show.
🟢 Watch or Don’t Watch 🟢
If you want to see a completely different side to the Sherlock Holmes story then I say for sure give this show a chance. Is it the greatest show that you will run and tell all your friends about? Eh, I don’t think so.
