So this was not a bad movie. I did enjoy it overall, but I wish it were a little more upbeat. I kept hearing people compare this to Camp Rock so I had certain expectations. Sadly it did not meet those expectations. BUT. It was still a decent movie musical. A Week Away has a really great redemption story. A wonderful story about a boy who moves around from foster home to foster home and finds himself at a church camp that will change his life. Heartwarming story. It was a very enjoyable movie.
I really do like that this is a good wholesome movie. Very uplifting as well. Good music and an extremely family friendly movie musical. It was also at times a bit cheesy, but it was still good. It also has a wonderful message about friendship.
I wish the songs were more upbeat so that I would want to get up off my couch and dance. Camp Rock and High School Musical did that more for me than A Week Away. Sometimes, and I will be honest, I caught myself not really paying attention to the movie. I do wish the writing could have been a little stronger. I understand it cannot be too crazy filled with drama because it is a Christian movie. But I do still wish that there were more that the characters have to overcome. All they really do is give us surface stuff with these characters they really don’t go deeper.
Bailee Madison and Kevin Quinn have pretty great chemistry on screen. Every moment they had together felt real. It is always so cute to see young love. I always want to root for them and hope they will beat all the odds. I know it is just a movie, but still.
Kat was great with Bailee. With Bailee they had a wonderful friendship! I could see them hanging out outside of filming. You could also tell they were having a blast filming with each other. I like it when actors genuinely like each other. It makes their performance that much better.
The ones who did not sell it enough for me were Jahbril Cook and Kat Conner Sterling. Kat and Jahbril are not as cute together as much as I would have liked them to be. Now. I am a HUGE fan of shy people coming out of their shell, but they just did not sell it for me. It seemed to me like they were uncomfortable acting with each other. When they were not with each other they were perfectly fine. Makes me wonder if real feelings were at play. . .
Jahbril and Kevin were awesome together. It was a friendship that you could totally see in real life. Just like how Kat and Bailee were together. Sometimes it did seem like they were working too hard to get along, but I could still see they were friends. Like I do not see them hanging outside of filming. But I could see that they are professional and they will get through the scene.
I truly believe that if you are active in your Church or used to go to Church camp you will thoroughly enjoy this movie. They have also remade popular Christian songs. I have never been to church camp so it was nice get a glimpse into what life is like at a Church camp. And honestly what I was shown is not exactly what I had in mind. Made me wish I went. If this is not what it really is like please don’t burst my bubble. But like I said earlier, I think those who have been to Church camp or know this life will be pleased with the movie.
🟢 Watch or Don’t Watch 🟢
I know that not everyone will be into a Christian movie, but I still think this movie should be given a chance. It is a good wholesome, perfect for the family movie.
