🟢 Non Spoiler Spew 🟢

Even though this one did not live up to the hype of “Thor: Ragnarok” I think it was still just as entertaining. It was not only entertaining, but it was visually beautiful and the comedy in it was still on point.

I do wish that they slowed down a bit in their storytelling. They tried to do too much and it did seem a bit fast paced for a long running movie. The stuff I wish they spent more time with was Jane Foster. With Jane and with Gorr the god butcher. I do feel like they brushed over their stories a little. They do still give us enough to where it makes sense, but I guess what I wanted was a little more time to connect with their characters on a bit more of a deeper level.

They also should have focused a little more on Jane and Thor. I do not feel like their story got resolved. Since Jane is not in the other movies I still had a lot of questions as to what happened. Yes, they do go over that, but I still think it was not enough. Jane and Thor’s relationship just felt rushed and I could not get emotionally involved.

Christian Bale as Gorr was LEGIT. He is always a solid actor, but I felt like he was on another level when it came to this movie. He reminded me of Cate Blanchett as Hela. The other Chris, Chris Hemsworth, totally looked like he was full in on this movie. Like in Ragnarok you can see that he is committed to comedy, but you can tell he was still getting comfortable with the new way they were taking the character. In this one there was NO DOUBT that Chris leaned all the way in to his character. You could tell that he was truly enjoying himself.

This movie is full of color and it is beautifully made. But there are some parts where it goes to black and white and man oh man. Somehow they made those scenes look just as beautiful as the colorful scenes. The cinematography in this one is amazing.

Overall, Taika is still the man. He was still able to deliver a fun and entertaining movie knowing the pressure he was under. Also, he is able to make a comedy movie when the underlying story is a pretty sad one. Taika does such a wonderful job that we forget all the emotions Thor has not fully dealt with.

🔴 Plot Summary Spoiler Spew 🔴

In the beginning we see Gorr, his daughter, and the last of his people in a desert. Gorr prays to his god to save her, but they do not and she passes away. The Necrosword, a god killing sword, appears to Gorr and Gorr kills his god that he worships. After this Gorr sets out to kill all the gods.

Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy receive a distress call from Sif. When they finally reach her she tells Thor Gorr’s next area to hit is New Asgard.

Back on Earth we learn that Jane Foster has been diagnosed with stage four terminal cancer. Jane gets a feeling and heads to New Asgard to find Mjolnir. In a montage of her and Thor’s relationship, we see that Thor tells Mjolnir to protect Jane at all costs. When Jane sees the fractured Mjolnir, Hela broke it back in Ragnarok, it starts to put itself back together.

Thor gets to New Asgard to team up with Valkyrie. While attacking Gorr, Thor sees another Thor and realizes it is Jane. Gorr escapes but he kidnaps children and takes them with him to the Shadow Relm.

Thor, Korg, Valkyrie, and Jane head to Omipotence City to warn Zeus all the other gods and ask them for their help. Zeus refuses Thor because he feels they will all be safe where they are. Zeus tries to capture them so they will not reveal their location. Valkyrie is able to steal Zeus thunder bolt and they escape.

On the way to the Shadow Relm, Jane tells Thor about her cancer. When they finally get there, Gorr is able to beat them all and he steals Stormbreaker. He needed Stormbreaker so he can open a Bifrost to another relm called Eternity. At Eternity you are allowed one wish and it will come true. The group heads back to New Asgard so Jane can stay and heal. Thor doesn’t want to put her body through any more fighting so he heads to defeat Gorr by himself because he fears Gorr will wish all the gods dead. Thor finds all the children and tells them to get any random object and he will use the thunderbolt to give them all powers. Gorr is beating poor badly, but Jane arrives. The Necrosword gets destroyed and Gorr becomes free from it’s hold it had on him.

All three are now in Eternity and Gorr makes a wish to bring his daughter back to life. Thor heads over to Jane, and she dies in his arms. Gorr wishes his daughter to life, he sees her one last time, and then he dies. Thor takes Love, Gorr’s daughter, and the other children back to New Asgard. We see Sif and Valkyrie training the children. We see Thor has Mjolnir back while Love holds Stormbreaker.

In the mid credits scene, we see that Zeus tells his son Hercules that he needs to go and kill Thor.

In the post credits scene, Jane arrives at the gates of Valhalla and Heimdall welcomes her.

  1. I was not impressed with this movie, parts were good yes but overall I just found it cheesy. I didnt feel Jane and Thor had the connection they did in previous movies, it was missing. Atleast thats what I felt. But Ragnarok is still the best Thor movie to date.
