I am sad to say that I was not a complete fan of this comic.
Ethan Sacks does a good job of setting up an interesting story, but I do feel it was a bit messy. The transitions between present and past was not clear at all. To be honest, what is actually happening went right over my head. I was super confused I kept finding myself turning back to the beginning and looking for clues that I may have missed. I am a huge fan of expanding the universe and getting more adventure stories, but this one just did not hit the spot for me. I do like though that this story did show us some flashbacks of characters we are familiar with. Which makes sense since this cruiser has been around for many years. So it has for sure seen some things.
Now, Will and Rachelle, now they did an awesome job with this comic. I think they did a great job at capturing the emotions of all the characters involved. I also like that how in the flashbacks the colors were a but muted and the present time there were a bit more color. Not sure if this was intended, but that’s what I took from it. I also do appreciate that even though the story itself seems to be geared towards a younger audience, the drawing is still very much realistic.
Overall, I am not too sure how to feel. I know this is created based off of the Star Wars hotel, but something just does not sit right. I guess knowing they are making this just to sell tickets does not help either. But you know, I do appreciate that they have been trying to connect Galaxy’s Edge to current Star Wars. Which honestly makes sense because Batuu has been a mystery to me.
🔴 Summary Spoiler Spew 🔴
A launch pod is on its way to the Halcyon Starcruiser. Cimina and her grandfather are on their way to the Halcyon when they over hear a couple talking about how the First Order bombed Tah’Nuhna. They get to Halcyon and Cimina wants to go to the Lightsaber Training Pod. Cimina’s grandpa was amazed that the droid who is showing them around, D3O9, remembered him.
Years ago. Anakin is fighting Asajj Ventress with Padme watching.
Present time. Captain Keevan is on a civilian ship, the Halcyon, when they get a transmission saying they have intercepted a transmission from the Resistance on Keevan’s ship. The First Order would pay Crimson Jack a lot for that information. They want the Halcyon turn over the spy or else they will attack. Cimina is scared, but D3O9 tells her not to be scared. D3 then starts to ask Cimina is she has heard about Jedi, the ancient warriors.
265 Years Earlier. A Wookie Jedi Padawan, Burryaga, is with his master, Nib Asskel, but is distracted. Nib says she understands that Burry feels everyone’s emotions deeply and wants to help in the war, but they are needed on the Halcyon. Nib and Burry go to the captains room and the see that the Nihil have arrived. They want to come on board because they know people on this Starcruiser are rich. They are not able to reach Starlight beacon because their coms are jammed. Burry uses the Force to reach Starlight Beacon.
Burry takes a fighter to shoot the ships outside and Nib is fighting everyone inside. Other Jedi arrive in time to help. They say they felt Burry’s call. On the Halcyon, the Nihil take the codes for the Chandrila Charter Company Shipyards.
Present time. Crimson Jack starts to shoot at the Halcyon.
